Influencing Other Influencers (Part 2)
Here is another practical practice we share to the question we often get asked as we meet people for the first time and sometimes those we know well:
SEEK, SAVE, SEND …. for us this is what Mobilizing a Missionary Movement looks like as those who follow in the way of Jesus come alive to His mission. We strive to help households of faith improve in core functions of the church like Disciple-Making, Evangelism, Building Family/Community, and Transformative Worship.
One of the strategic disciple-making discoveries we have made in this journey is the effectiveness found in serving a dinner to the seculars of our community. We call it by several different names such as Dinner Church, Missional Communities, Community Meal, Micro Church, and other descriptive terms.
Dinner Church has forged new paths for households of faith to reach lost and isolated people in neighborhoods all around us. They become families on mission who come alive to seek and save those who have lost their way.
We are providing followers in the way of Jesus, who sit in our Sunday gatherings, with a way to engage the isolated people of their neighborhood as a family. The objective is to turn average congregants into a local missionary force working together. They have the heart and just need help with the practice to live it out. It’s a family opening their hearts to others who might want to become part of such a community.
It is interesting that a simple meal allows people of all walks in life to find some common ground and get to know one another. The things which have separated melt away as the love of Christ goes to work. Before long relationships form and the Gospel is passed from person to person … disciples make other disciples. Missionaries cross cultures to share the Gospel and make other followers in the way of Jesus.
What an incredible idea: it is the way of Jesus! Disciples making disciples.
When we look into the future we see a network of tables taking root in neighborhoods where pastors and local churches are sharing the love of Jesus with the isolated people in their neighborhood.
These are new gatherings of the Church where Families On Mission come together and lost, disenfranchised people from the area can find help to become part of Christ’s family. These tables of HOPE make a difference in neighborhoods as entire cities are changed through Gospel saturation. Disciples making disciples who make disciples.
It’s a rather diverse collective of Gospel communities sharing a meal… people committed to mobilizing a missionary movement to bring about Gospel saturation in their part of the world. Jesus has sent them there to share the Good News. It is sort of an audacious vision … but one we believe the Holy Spirit is unfolding before us.
